Numerical Analysis of the Axial-Flexural Behavior of CFST Columns with Active Transverse Prestressing

This paper presents a numerical study on the vertical (axial) and lateral (flexure) behavior of CFST (Concrete-Filled Steel Tube) columns with active hoop prestress achieved by bolting together two steel half-tubes. Twelve prototype column specimens differing in prestressing force (three levels) gravity loading ratio (four are analyzed; they selected to represent typical ground mid-rise buildings. Their structural is simulated nonlinear model implemented Abaqus; concrete described damage-plasticity plasticity model, respectively. The concrete-steel interaction represented hard (compression-only) surface-to-surface contact model. calculations involve three consecutive steps: (i) transverse prestress, (ii) axial force, (iii) (shear bending moment). calculation results show that axial-flexural capacity adequate.
